We live under a system of punishment and reward which holds the Consciousness in self repeating patterns; dulled down and diminished.
Ordinary consciousness creates a reality around such things. Such as meditation. What it truly is rather than what it isn’t. People seeking the reward of heightened consciousness or enlightenment are on the mental plane and are using the wrong faculty. There is no brain measurement where the awareness in constant absorption in the present moment, is concerned, because it is a function of Will and not the brain.
Those who live a pampered existence are too weak to attain anything that could vaguely be referred to as Enlightenment. They’ve never learned to exercise the Will sufficiently. Only under pressure can the Will be developed.
This is how you can discern true spiritual development in any person. By their Will. If one acts out of seeking a reward then they don’t have the Will only the Intellect.
The Intellect shows itself in a person in equal measures, as fear of punishment. Where there is no fear there exists the possibillity of attaining true spiritual development. It is fear of punishment that gives rise to the objectification of the self, Ego. People introject and project illusory meaning into their lives by stoking the Ego. The Ego is a fictional character.
If you act out of a fictional characterisation of the Self you are not acting out of your power, and as such, cannot attain higher consciousness, and enjoy manna from Heaven.
